Serving our Community

  1. Rainbow Railroad
    1. Conduct an annual appeal for the Rainbow Railroad.
    2. Donate to the Rainbow Railroad in the name of the Rainbow Mensans.
    3. Host a Rainbow Railroad fundraiser with other LGBTQ+ groups.
  2. Promoting Relationship Skills
    1. Organize a seminar on how to improve any LGBTQ+ relationship.
      1. Line up a speaker.
      2. Line up a venue.
      3. Market to the LGBTQ+ community including digital marketing.
      4. Keep track of attendees.
      5. Write PR pieces publicizing the event.
    2. Research relationships, read a book or interview professionals and write a blog on relationships.
  3. Promote Visibility in the LGBTQ+ Community
    1. The Annual Pride Luncheon
      1. Coordinate the luncheon with the restaurant.
      2. Take orders and keep track.
      3. Collect the money.
      4. Apply for GOBS funding.
    2. Chicago Annual Pride Parade contingent
      1. Become the parade czarina/czar or volunteer to do one or more f the following:
        1. Interface with parade officials.
        2. Line up a float.
        3. Coordinate shirts.
        4. Market the parade.
        5. Apply for GOBS funding.
        6. Notify national about use of the banners.
        7. Write PR pieces about our participation.
    3. Organize a reciprocal links program with other Chicago LGBTQ+ groups.
      1. Research Chicago LGBTQ+ organizations, identify their websites and obtain contact information.
      2. Create a page on our website and create links to the other organizations.
      3. Develop a model letter of understanding spelling out the expectations of reciprocal linkages.
      4. Contact each organization asking them to link our website with theirs in exchange for us doing the same.
      5. Conduct a campaign encouraging all LGBTQ+ organizations to link all other such organizations.
      6. Come up with funding for a Google ad.

Increasing Membership

  1. Coordinate a digital marketing campaign with a professional.
  2. Sign the group up for Meetup and post regularly.
    1. Host a meeting at a bar.
    2. Welcome newcomers.
  3. Develop a refer-a-friend campaign.
    1. Write a model letter with an invitation to join.
    2. Ask the coordinator or membership officer to send the letter to the friend.
  4. Host a bring-a-friend event.
  5. Reach out to Rainbow university groups.
    1. Research the existence of such groups and their contact information.
    2. Adopt a university alumni group or student organization and pay for a “pizza party”.
    3. Visit the organization and promote the Rainbow SIG.
    4. Organize a College Bowl or MENSA® Trivia contest and invite members of all such organizations at the same time.
  6. Reach out to Chicago Area MENSA® membership
    1. Publish articles in ChiMe.
    2. Post on Facebook.
    3. Identify through national those expressing an interest in LGBTQ+ activities.
